This session is for teenagers and young adults interested in directing circuses or circus acts. It will be an informal exchange of ideas and experiences, but will also include some “on the spot” assignments in which participants have to fulfill some creation and planning challenges which they will share with others in the group.
We will explore some basic questions, like: “Why does a circus need a director?”, “What does a circus director do?”, “”What is different about directing circus and directing theater?”, “What kind of preparation is involved in directing a circus?”, “What skills do you need to direct a circus?”, and “How do you make a rehearsal schedule that works?” Participants can come with specific ideas for circus acts or shows that you would like to direct, or just come with an open mind if you think you may be interested in seeing circus from the director’s point of view. We will talk, try some goofy directorial challenges, listen, respond, and generally reflect on what it takes to create a circus from the ground up.
Ages 12 and up. College students and adults welcome. This session will be recorded!
